How Long Does a Pool Cage Rescreen Take?

Panel count and access decide the schedule, not square footage — and in Sanford, two more things can extend it further.

A single panel is a short same-day visit. A full cage is measured in panels, not square feet, so a large custom cage in a neighborhood like River Crest has many times the panel count — and the on-site time — of a small rear lanai in Hidden Lake. One published Florida worked example puts a 6-panel job that also needed a full frame rebuild at 6–8 hours of labor.

What sets the base time

  • Panel count. The single real driver. Mesh-only work on a sound frame goes panel by panel at a fairly steady pace once material and tools are on site.
  • Frame or fastener work. Any panel that also needs a corroded fastener replaced, a spline groove re-cut, or a frame member straightened takes materially longer than a mesh-only swap on the same panel.
  • Mesh mixed by wall. Specifying a different mesh for the water-facing wall than the roof, as the mesh guide recommends for Lake Monroe-adjacent cages, adds sorting and cutting time but not meaningfully more labor than one uniform mesh across the whole cage.

Two things that extend a Sanford schedule specifically

Access. Zero-lot-line parcels like Mayfair Meadows have narrow side access, which changes how a full-length roll of material physically reaches the back of the house. Gated communities — Lake Forest, Buckingham Estates, Retreat at Wekiva and others — add a coordination step at the gate that a non-gated street does not.

The historic districts. In the Sanford Residential, Sanford Avenue and Downtown Commercial Historic Districts, exterior work including repairs needs a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic Preservation Board, which meets once a month on the third Wednesday. A rescreen that would otherwise take a day can take a month of calendar time here purely on the approval schedule — detail on the permit guide.

Panel count and access decide your timeline
